Priya

Priya, 2011
, 16mm film ,13 minute,

The composition of the film stock and how it breaks down through vagaries of deterioration from soil and vegetable matter is part of the subject of the film; how this is witnessed through a corresponding action of 16mm film passing through the projector is integral to the viewing experience. A parallel journey is manifested within the body of the dancer and the filmic body. The performance of the dancer gives way to a performance of layers of celluloid disintegrating before us. A parallel journey is manifested within the body of the dancer and the filmic body. The amalgam of the two brings us closer to our own corporeality, but the idea of the finite is counterbalanced by the continuous twirling of the dancer in relation to her hand perpetually gesturing out of frame, away from her centre, back and finally up into the infinite.
